LLL034 John Hill Rogers: Entropy Experience

John Lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

John Lounges with LannaLee and gets a couch! After a delicous homemade meal, John and Lanna chat about how they met (at the Stonecoast Writers’ Conference), magic pants, and who has magic in his pants. John explains how he deals with his ADHD. They talk about John’s homesteading, music, and creativity seminiar. John recommends a couple of books. And he answers 10 questions.

John Hill Rogers

John is a Creative Cognitist, a title given him by one of his creative partners. A proud ADHD adult, he has many creative pursuits, all of which are supported by his career as an Information Security Consultant/Systems Engineer. He believes that creativity is inherent to being alive, and prefers to talk about people involved in creativity rather than “creative people”. He has worked as a cook and chef, and loves working with food, especially locally produced. He is a writer of essays, short-story and poetry, currently working on a book about the human shadow, and pursuing an English degree at USM. He is a musician who studied jazz vocal in another college life, and plays the flute and drums. John has also worked as a professional coach, trainer and organizational developer, working with individuals and organizations to overcome challenges and improve. His curiosity and drive to connect dots keeps him always looking for new endeavors. His latest endeavor is a seminar entitled: Creativity and All That Jazz, during which a live jazz quartet is used to model the 5 core principals of successful organizations. A book on this seminar is also in the works.

LLL032 Jeff Bouley: Go With The Flow

In an undisclosed location, Jeff and Lanna have a thoughtful conversation about spirituality, Christianity and Science Fiction. They kibitz about fundamentalism, atheism, and the Duggers and geek out over Doctor Who and Kevin Smith’s movie Dogma. Jeff talks about his writing career (journalism, non-fiction) and passions (sci-fi and fantasy). And he answers 10 questions.

Jeff Bouley

A short fiction writer and novelist trapped in a journalist’s body, Jeff Bouley has made a living since the early 1990s as an editor/writer for a variety of trade and association magazines, mostly in the healthcare, pharmaceutical or environmental realms. Jeff also…oh, hell, why is Jeff writing about himself in the third person? I’ve also been blogging as Deacon Blue since around 2007/2008, spouting off on spiritual, social and political topics or generally venting about life, and also started there an epic science fiction story that eventually stalled and is still on hiatus. I’m also an undercover erotic fiction writer with a pretty large (if non-paying) readership across the world, and since I can’t go attaching that identity and the blogs that go with it to my real name (since most of it is kinky), I also started up a blog in 2010 to showcase mostly non-sexy fiction, Tales of the Whethermen (a “realistic” superhero-themed world) under my real name. As for other miscellany, I have a wife I love who is trying to save the world (her small part of it at least) while blogging, parenting and trying to enjoy life; a grown son and young daughter who make me proud in very different ways; a love of good craft/microbeer beers and inexpensive red wine; an ability to make some of the best damn chocolate chip cookies around; and a strong appreciation for quality (and sometimes not-so-quality) science fiction, fantasy and horror.

Elijah tells how he went from a Book guy to a college football (and Ohio State Univerisity) enthusiast. And he answers 10 questions.

LLL029 LLLSalon: The Golden Rule: Like a Punch to the Face

Rachel, Lanna and Greg at the live LLLSalon NightBreaking right into the first person here. What do I say about this episode?

Historically a Salon is a intellectual gathering where the hostess gathers a group of interesting people together to discuss politics, literature, art, music and other topics of the day. It would last over a long dinner which included several courses. These salons attracted the intellectual elite and were meant to educate and amuse their guests. I always loved the idea of a good salon. People wielded power in salons.

Each Lounging with LannaLee episode acts as if it were a mini-salon, with me and one or two guests. When I Lounged with Candace Karu I told her of my dream: to do a larger scale lounge. And to my great surprise and immense pleasure, she volunteer to host a dinner party at her house so we could do this. We chose our dream team (detailed below) and got to planning.

And here it is. A cacophony of awesome. Our theme was creativity, the life of the creative. Did we even answer all of the questions? I don’t know, but we had a blast.

We had some beatbox action, one of us dissed Chris Brogan, we laughed and joked. And talked about what is important in life. How we should follow the golden rule. How we should get rid of our fear. We laughed some more. I sang. Almost a whole song before I forgot the words. Most of us cursed at least once. There are many pictures (posted below, with slide shows). There is a video (posted on the LLL Facebook Page). And there is a bunch more audio, which is to come later. Only time for so much.

I would quote more, but some of it loses its meaning without the context. You know what I mean.

This was a glorious experiment that turned out better than I expected. We had so much fun, we are planning on doing it again. Should we? I am thinking that four times a year is good. What do you think?

Note: we had a problem with the sound. There are 3 occasions where there are short bouts of hissing. I apologize for any annoyances this might cause. It does go away.

From the Q97.9 studios, Jeff and Lanna talk about Pinball, game shows and the radio business. They reminise about blogging before it was called blogging. Lanna asks how to break into radio. Jeff describes his first love (pinball) and cops to his obsession with everything Bob Barker and The Price as Right. And he answers 10 questions.

Jeff Parsons in his own words

I’ve been a radio personality for almost 21 years, 16 of which have been with WJBQ Q97.9 in Portland. I’m a father of a six-year-old boy going on sixteen, a pinball player, video game player, sci-fi geek, computer nerd, poker player who never wins and I wish I could have been the next Bob Barker but instead they hired that pantload Drew Carey without even giving me a look. I also enjoy Necco wafers and dislike animals, two things very uncommon with humans.

Bee Lounged with LannaLee and got a couch!

Bee and Lanna talk about criticism, literature, writing and education. Bee explains why she dropped out of college and went to beauty school. Spoiler: they talk about spoilers, and why they each surround themselves with people who are easy to entertain. Bee goes back to school and she tells Lanna how it feels to have writer’s block. And she answers 10 questions.

Bee Round in her own words

Dilettante? Raconteuse? Can a woman be a Renaissance Man? Music, teaching, photography, writing, baking, collecting, musing… opining. Fame has never come knocking but I never asked for it either. Half the time I feel like I’m just tripping over all the things I’m interested in and and the rest of the time I’m apologizing for being such a hermit-nerd. I think “interested” people find themselves surrounded by “interesting” people and opportunities… If I had a philosophy for life that may be it… Be Interested.
